Girls Day

What do cargo bikes, 3D printers, picking robots and IT systems have to do with logistics?

Fifteen schoolgirls got to the bottom of these questions on Girls Day 2023 and were able to get a first-hand look at the career and study field of logistics at a joint event organised by Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences with HUB31, LAB³ and with the support of the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce and AEP Solutions GmbH. "It was important to us that the schoolgirls experience logistics in a practical and fun way. That's when we came up with the idea of a process rally," say Prof. Dr. Monika Futschik and Prof. Dr. Johanna Bucerius.

At the event, the schoolgirls were allowed to place orders themselves, pick, pack and deliver them on cargo bikes. At the end, the schoolgirls learned how to print out a spare part for the cargo bike using a 3D printer directly at HUB31. "It was really great to see the enthusiasm with which the girls participated, asked questions and went home with shining eyes. We'll be happy to do it again," said Hermann Fedra, Managing Director of AEP Solution GmbH.

Many thanks to all those involved in the preparation, implementation and support of the event.
