International Collaboration: Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences Visits Tongji University in Shanghai

In October, a 15-member delegation from Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Darmstadt) visited the renowned Tongji University in Shanghai. The two universities share a long-standing partnership that has been continuously strengthened through joint projects and exchange programs.
The visit offered exciting professional insights, intercultural exchange, and inspiring discussions. Together with students from Tongji University, the delegation explored key topics such as *Transportation in a Megacity*. German students presented the transportation system in Germany, while their Chinese counterparts provided fascinating insights into mobility solutions in the megacity of Shanghai. The program was enriched by company visits, lab tours, and presentations from both sides.

For the first time, students from the Darmstadt Business School participated alongside students from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (BU).

Highlights of the visit included:

  • Expert presentations on the transportation systems of Shanghai and Germany,
  • Insights into the innovative research facilities at Tongji University,
  • Engaging exchanges with local and international companies,

And a cultural highlight: a traditional Oktoberfest, fostering connections across cultures.

The excursion was organized by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, led by Prof. Dr. Axel Wolfermann. Special thanks go to Mark-Simon Krause for his dedicated coordination and Angelo Canu for on-site support.

This visit not only enhanced international understanding and interdisciplinary collaboration but also expanded the networks and perspectives of the participating students. Experiences like these play a crucial role in building bridges between cultures and academic fields.
