New pick-by-light system in the h-da logistics laboratory

The logistics laboratory in Dieburg has a new addition. Since June, students have been able to try out the new pick-by-light system for order picking.

Pick-by-Light means that light signals and displays at the storage location indicate which and how many items need to be picked. The shelf is connected to the ERP system so that the picked items can be automatically booked out of the stock.

The new system was developed and set up in co-operation with Dematic, one of the world's leading providers of intralogistics solutions. In close cooperation, a dialogue in the ProX4 software was developed by Dematic trainees specifically for the requirements of the logistics laboratory. "We have been working closely with Dematic for many years. However, this project was new territory for both sides, as we were able to work with trainees from various Dematic training programmes as an external customer. That was very successful" says Prof Dr Monika Futschik.

The first Master's students were able to see for themselves in the intralogistics lecture and were delighted that it was worthwhile. "The light signals make it immediately clear what and how much needs to be picked. Operation is intuitively very simple. It was fun to be able to try it out in real life," says Lukas Schmeer, Master of Business Administration specialising in logistics.

"We are proud of the great result that our trainees have achieved together with the university and are already looking forward to the continuation," says Christian Lanz, Team Lead Dematic Augsburg.

A special thank you goes to the participants from Dematic: Ensar Vejsilovic, Alexander Jacun, Marie Muellegger, Robert Simmerling, Andreas Luft, Christopher Lanz and Sebastian Ahl.
