The EUt+ University Alliance in Action: First joint Master's Thesis between UNICAS and h_da successfully completed

Mr. Guglielmo Nargiso Kuhne, a Master's student in Business Administration at the Università degli Studi di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (UNICAS), has successfully completed his thesis in collaboration with Hochschule Darmstadt (h_da). He is the first student to complete a Master's thesis jointly supervised by both universities. The supervision was conducted by Prof. Monika Futschik (h_da) and Prof. Carlo Russo (UNICAS).

In his thesis, Mr. Kuhne focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. According to the International Energy Agency, transportation accounts for approximately 20% of global CO2 emissions, highlighting the significance of this topic.
The thesis specifically examined the transport of fresh produce between Italy and Germany.

Mr. Kuhne analyzed various approaches to reducing emissions, including optimizing truck loading, planning efficient routes, and utilizing different modes of transport, such as rail. Based on a case study of a company transporting fruits and vegetables between the two countries, he calculated the costs and emissions of different scenarios. The goal was to identify a sustainable and practical transportation solution. His findings demonstrate that
significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are achievable through optimizations and the targeted application of existing technologies.

The collaboration between UNICAS and h_da on this thesis underscores the potential of the EUt+ University Alliance to tackle exciting scientific challenges through international cooperation.

We congratulate Mr. Guglielmo Nargiso Kuhne on his achievement and wish him continued success in the future.
